Arsenal's head of physical performance teaches USW students

Students on the Strength and Conditioning degree completed their first practical residential under the guidance of a number of industry big hitters.

These included:

  • Liam Hennessey, former Director of Fitness at the IRFU
  • Des Ryan, Head of Physical Performance at Arsenal Academy
  • Paul Pook, Grand-Slam-winning S&C coach with Ireland Rugby, and Olympic gold-medal-winning coach with Russian ski and snowboard
  • USW's Ian Jeffreys,  a world renowned S&C coach

Arsenal's Des Ryan talked to students about how the Arsenal Academy system functions and Paul Pook gave an insight into the programme of Olympic gold and silver medallists.

"It’s this inside knowledge that together with the specialist knowledge and skills imparted by the course, makes it unique in the field of strength and conditioning education in the UK," Ian Jeffreys said.

"All the students left with new skills and knowledge to use with their athletes."
