Aled, from Llandrindod Wells, is studying the CertHE in Health Care Nursing Support Worker Education.
"I previously worked in Mental Health but since moving to Cardiff, I have been on a Trauma and Orthopaedics ward specialising in spinal trauma and surgery.
My role consists of providing care to patients with spinal and spinal cord injuries, this includes pre and post-op care.
I decided to enrol on the health care support worker course as I hope to become a registered nurse. This course will help prepare me for university and completing a degree in Adult nursing.
I have enjoyed meeting other HCSWs on the course and discussing with them our own experiences of being a HCSW. This is useful as we all come from different backgrounds and we all work in different areas of nursing.
On the course so far I have learnt how to reflect on my working practice and be able to write reflective pieces of work. I have learnt how to research pieces of evidence relating to my working practice. I have also learnt how to reference when writing essays and assignments.
The advice I would give to someone considering the course would be to make sure you are dedicated to your job and enjoy doing it as the course involves learning and relating this knowledge to your own job role."
