Lora Roberts, from Bridgend, is studying the Chiropractic degree at USW.
"I’ve always had an interest in the human body and how it functions. I’ve been a track and field athlete all my life, representing Wales in the 100m hurdles. Recently, I’ve started playing rugby for Llandaff North.
Hurdling, particularly, had a real impact on my lower back so I went to see a chiropractor. I was amazed at the difference it made and how quickly I was able to train again.
At the time, I was studying a biology degree at another university, but I wasn’t really enjoying it. Seeing a chiropractor really opened my eyes, so I decided to enrol on the Chiropractic course at USW.
It was the best decision I have ever made. I am thoroughly enjoying my chiropractic training, especially now I’m in the fourth year and working in the clinic. I love the patient interaction and being able to help people.
In the first year, you’re assigned a fourth year student who treats you throughout the year. After my first session with them, I remember thinking this is what I want to be doing, this is so cool!
My plan when I graduate is to work for someone else for a few years, and then set up my own clinic.
I don’t think I want to specialise as I enjoy the variety of working with different clients. With this qualification, I can also work abroad, so I have lots of options."
