Graduate Richard Morgan, Head of Asset Management and Standards at the Welsh Government, talks about his experiences of the Doctor of Business Administration.
"A key part of my role as a civil servant is providing high quality evidence based advice to Ministers and members of the public. To improve my practice I’d previously completed an MBA and thoroughly enjoyed the research element so undertaking a doctorate was the next logical next step for me.
Looking around for a course of study that would fit in with my busy work and home life the University of South Wales’s DBA provided the perfect solution. With attendance at the University based on blocks of weekend study there was minimal disruption to my career. Equally important was the well-structured nature of the course which encouraged me to continually make progress and the support of fellow students and highly motivated staff.
My research explored the relationship between models of leadership and the effectiveness of cross sector partnerships. In Wales effective cross sector partnerships are seen as crucial to improve the delivery of public services and the solution of challenging social problems that cannot be addressed by single sector organisations alone. Though hard work, finally being awarded my doctorate was immensely satisfying. I’ve increased my academic knowledge and had a real impact on my own and others practice in an increasingly important area."
