Students explore the interaction between art, science and health

Julia Thomas studies MA Art Practice (Art, Health and Wellbeing) at USW. Her final exhibition ‘Big Science’ explores the interaction between art, science and health.

“As an artist with a scientific background, I have drawn on my research career to develop an art practice that focuses around the interaction between art, science and health. I originally studied genetics and statistics and then worked within research as a biostatistician. In 2005, I made the decision to give up my job to study art at the University of South Wales.

My interests lie within collaborative ways of working, the slippage of language between art and science, public participation and visually elucidating meaning through metaphor. I employ a multi-media approach as I am very much led by the physicality of materials and how that fits in with the underlying concept.”
