As this is a top-up course, it is only a 60-credit course. The course comprises of two modules. First, students will complete a 20-credit Research Methods module which will explore how to acquire knowledge in a scientific and structured manner and equip students with the research skills to complete the final module, the Management Project. The Management Project is a 40-credit module where students get the opportunity to use their skills and knowledge to identify and research a contemporary management issue and make an original contribution to knowledge. The Management Project is an extended piece of writing at 12,000 words. Students are assigned a project supervisor to support them through this module.

What students is this course aimed at?

The top-up MBA is only available to students who already possess a Post Graduate Diploma in a Business or Management subject. The course is ideally suited to applicants who are currently working in mid-to-senior management positions.

The course is completely online.

The research methods module comprises of 7 topic areas which are taught through a series of pre-recorded mini-lectures which are accompanied by guided further reading, videos and podcasts as well as a short quiz at the end of each topic area to allow students to test their knowledge.

Teaching and learning are supported by eight synchronous sessions. These are typically delivered at 10 am (local time) on a Saturday morning and last about an hour. Here, the topics are explored in greater depth and the students are given the opportunity to explore the topics with the module tutor and the wider group as well as ask questions about the assignments.

The management project is an independent piece of research that focuses on a contemporary management issue. The management project is divided into six chapters. A key element of the management project is the students’ ability to plan and manage the project within the time allocated. A project supervisor is allocated to the student to mentor them through the research process.

The course is assessed entirely by coursework.

The Research Methods modules are assessed by 2 written assignments. The first assignment focusses on quantitative methods and is 2,500 words in length. The second assignment focusses on qualitative methods and is 3,000 words in length. The Management Project is also an extended piece of coursework and is 12,000 words in length.

The course is fully delivered through the Blackboard virtual learning environment. Students have got full access to the USW online library during their studies.
