MSc Artificial Intelligence student Oluwamayowa Alege talks about how his course has equipped him with essential skills.

I am Oluwamayowa Alege, a postgraduate student studying Artificial Intelligence. I chose AI for its exciting opportunities, interdisciplinary nature, and the high demand for AI skills in the industry. My choice was fuelled by intellectual curiosity, the desire to solve complex problems, and the potential for societal impact.

My studies have equipped me with employability skills such as Machine Learning, Deep Learning, Natural Language Processing, Computer Vision, Data Preparation and Analysis, and proficiency in programming languages and tools. I'm eager to apply this knowledge in the industry, given the right opportunity.

The high-memory computer systems and popular software like scikit-learn, NumPy, pandas, and Jupyter Notebook I've used at USW have made my work more efficient, improving data analysis and modelling tasks. The course has prepared me with technical knowledge, practical experience, and industry relevance.

To anyone contemplating studying AI, I'd say: have a strong foundation in Mathematics and Statistics, engage in hands-on projects, stay updated with current advancements, focus on practical applications, and always be willing to learn and adapt. The Student Advice Zone at USW has also been very helpful.

For future students: stay engaged with research, build a portfolio and seek internships!
