Cardiff has been fantastic for my artistic growth.
Studying Illustration at USW
Art has always been a big part of my life. I was encouraged at home to pursue it, and during Covid, while balancing my GCSEs, I found myself doing even more art. Originally, I considered a career in veterinary science, but my love for illustration won out. It’s something I’m truly passionate about, and I’ve always been motivated to follow what I enjoy.
I chose USW because I wanted to move to a city that would inspire my art. Cardiff is dynamic, creative, and just the right distance from my hometown, Cheltenham. Although I didn’t attend an Open Day, I felt confident that this was the right place—and it turned out to be a great decision.
Find your courseCreative projects and career aspirations
During my time here, I’ve had incredible industry opportunities, including a project with Music to Clare's Emergency, Cardiff Council, and Sustainable Studios. We’ve also worked on live briefs, including TV show design projects. My favourite experience so far has been working on a mural; it was such a unique opportunity, and I’m really grateful for it.
As for my future, I’m exploring different career paths with the help of the careers team, who have been so supportive. My advice to future illustrators? Keep practicing—don’t lose your flow. Sketching regularly keeps your creativity alive!
