Choosing USW and gaining practical experience
I wasn’t initially planning on going to university, but after running a business selling vintage clothing online and doing well in my A-levels, my mum encouraged me to consider it. I attended several Open Days and ultimately chose USW after connecting with the course and especially with one of the lecturers. Attending the hands-on Applicant Experience Day further convinced me this was the right place for me.
I had the opportunity to work with Cardiff Fashion Week as they relaunched after a decade. I led a team of marketing students, which was a fantastic experience for networking and gaining industry insights. Although I couldn’t fully participate, I was also offered a chance to work on a live brief with Salomon, marketing a new shoe. The practical experience was invaluable, even if I couldn’t complete it.

My favourite part of the course has been the community. Everyone is passionate and like-minded, making it easy to build friendships. Living in Cardiff has been wonderful as well; it’s a diverse, creative city with beautiful architecture that fuels my creativity.
After graduating, I’d love to expand my vintage clothing business. USW’s facilities, especially the photography studios, have been great for my business, allowing me to produce high-quality images for our website. The small class sizes and personalised support from lecturers make USW feel like a tight-knit, supportive community, which I think is unique.
