Film and Visual Effects Courses
Across three years of study, students will have the opportunity to experience a variety of filmmaking approaches and film craft disciplines before specialising in a key area of interest. As the course progresses, there will be a range of opportunities to develop skills, knowledge, and creative thinking led by independent curiosity.
By combining these different disciplines, students gain the opportunity to collaborate with each other, with other USW students and with industry professionals to develop their skills to a higher level.
Working with top industry practitioners and alongside BBC Wales’ training scheme It’s My Shout, you will learn the importance of storytelling, self-shooting and single camera 'guerilla' filmmaking.

The Production Management pathway builds on an applicant’s experience in film making, be it in professional or educational contexts, prior to their application for a place on the course. Portfolios should show an aptitude for film making and business management.
The MA Film (Screenwriting) pathway is designed to give you the knowledge needed to write your first feature, moving from pitch to treatment to final draft within a year.
The visual effects industry is increasingly in demand from big budget films, high-end TV series to creative advertising, with motion design appearing in Film UI Design, TV title sequences, social media advertising, music live performance visuals and so much more.
