Activities

The Student Development and Study Skills service provides study support to all USW students. Complete each activity in this section to discover why you should access study skills support, what kinds of support are available, and how to take advantage of all that’s on offer.

Study skills are essential approaches and techniques that aid effective learning and can be acquired or taught. Most students develop strategies to help study effectively; sometimes it is simply about recognising them and developing them to use them to greater effect. It also helps to know what standards are acceptable to perform well at university. For more information, please visit our Study Skills website or e-mail [email protected].

Watch the video and hear what some of our students say about how we’ve supported them and make a list of the study skills they mention.

By encouraging diversity, inclusivity, and independent learning, we concentrate on helping you to improve academic performance in a number of ways.

Study area/Faculty Yes or No?
Computing, Engineering and Science Most courses in this field require maths in some form.

Still not sure?

Knowledge of maths and stats is often needed for research at HE. Look at your module descriptors and course handbook/curriculum for any mention of independent research or specific modules on research methods.

Approximately 5% of all students enter higher education with a Specific Learning Difficulty (SpLD), such as dyslexia. Over 50% of those supported for dyslexia received their first diagnosis while at university.

Therefore, it is quite common for students to discover they need additional learning support at university. If you’re unsure whether you might need more specialist support, try the Quickscan Screener which can identify signs of dyslexia or other SpLDs.

To find out more about screening and the support on offer, or to book an appointment, check out our Dyslexia Screening and Assessments page or e-mail [email protected].
