Sport and Societies

Believe it or not, there is a lot more to university than lectures, seminars and coursework.
Joining a society or a sports team can open you up to new experiences, new skills and most importantly, new friends. At USW, we have a close-knit community of students and an excellent Students' Union who can help you be a part of existing societies or even hand you the tools to create your own! If you have a competitive side, USW also boasts a thriving sporting community with over 60 teams playing in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues.
Clubs and Societies

If you join a club or society whilst at university, you’ll meet lots of new people with shared interests, make new friends and get involved in all sorts of activities, from demonstrations and day trips to nights out and parties.
For many students, joining a society is a huge part of their experience and makes their student experience unforgettable. As well as enjoying all of the society-run activities, by joining a club or society, you will likely develop skills that are highly valued by employers and be able to add to your CV.

Here are just a few you could get involved with:
- LGBT+
- Snowsports
- Cheerleading
- Film
- Cyber Security
- Debate
- Salsa
- Burlesque
Freshers' Fair
Joining a sports team, club or society at university can be a great way to meet new people, enjoy your hobbies and try something new.
Our sports teams, clubs and societies all have stalls at our Freshers' Fair where you can sign up for trials with the sports teams, and join the clubs and societies.
You can find a list of our clubs and societies on the USW Student Union website.

Sports

USW Sport is for everyone and trying a new sport is a great way to make friends. From squash to hockey, golf and many more, there’s sure to be something you’ll enjoy.
USW has a thriving competitive sports environment and it's a major part of student life. We have over 60 teams playing in the British Universities and Colleges (BUCS) leagues.
Over the last few years, we've had outstanding success in football, rugby, basketball, water polo, swimming, volleyball and badminton.

Our on-campus Sport Centre caters for everyone, from elite athletes to students who want to keep fit. The USW FitZone is open throughout the year and accessible to staff, students and members of the public via a range of membership options.
As a member, you will have access to the sports hall or the gym - with over 50 cardio machines, weight training equipment, squash courts, free weights room and a studio for exercise classes.
