BRP/BID visa cards and collection
Most University of South Wales students arriving for a new course should be able to collect their visa cards (referred to by UK Visas and Immigration as a BID or a BRP) from the University’s Immigration & International Student Advice team (IISA).
However, if you did not use the University code and are collecting from a post office, you will need to check on your UKVI decision letter to see where that is. You should also print out and complete this form to take with you as it will make the process quicker and easier and take it with you when you go to collect.
IISA are situated in the International Zone at H102 on the Treforest campus. This is located at number 8 on the Treforest campus map.
You are normally able to collect your BRP card during standard IISA drop-in from one month before the start of your course- dependant on your arrival date. During the International Welcome Programme you will also be able to collect your BRP at other times during that week and these sessions are outlined on the IWP Guide which, when available, you can download from the link above..
You can choose to collect your BRP from one of 4 locations. Your BRP collection location will automatically be our Treforest Office, unless you complete the alternative collection location form below. Our Treforest campus centre is open every day but Newport, Cardiff and RWCMD have selected collection dates and times. The Address for each location is:
Treforest: H102, Hirwaun Building, Treforest Campus, CF 37 1DL
Cardiff (Normally a Thursday): The Advice Zone, Atrium, Adam Street, Cardiff, CF24 2FN
Newport (Normally a Wednesday): D26, D Floor, Newport City C ampus, NP20 2BP
Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama: Student Services Reception , RWCMD, Cardiff, CF10 3ER
However, if you did not use the University code and are collecting from a post office, you will need to check on your UKVI decision letter to see where that is. You should also print out and complete this form to take with you as it will make the process quicker and easier and take it with you when you go to collect.
BRP Collection - Alternative Collection Location
If you wish to collect from a campus other than Treforest, you must complete the appointment request form and receive an email confirming your BRP is available at the other location before coming to collect your BRP.
Please note that some BRP's are delayed from UKVI, this may delay the collection time from any campus, especially if we need to change the location for collection.
Please do not fill in multiple versions of the form as this slows down our ability to respond to students.
What do I need to bring with me?
In order to be able to collect your card, you will need to bring the following items with you:
- Your UKVI decision letter
- Your passport containing your visa vignette (sticker)
- Your CAS statement
If you have dependants’, they will also be able to collect their cards from IISA and you should bring all their passports and UKVI decision letters also.
Adult dependant’s, over the age of 18, must sign for their own BID/BRP card, but you are able to collect BRP's for any dependant child under the age of 18.
Checking your BRP
It is very important that you check your card carefully to make sure that there are no mistakes This should include:
If you believe a mistake has been made please contact the IISA team immediately so they can check this for you. If a mistake has been made they will be able to support you through getting this changed. Dependent on the mistake made, they may be able to get this mistake changed immediately for free or to support you through a Administrative Review.
Do not wait to highlight mistakes as this might affect your future immigration situation.
Please note also that even though your vignette is technically a multiple entry visa, the UK Council for International Student Affairs recommend that you should not attempt to travel outside of the UK until you have collected your BRP.
