The University is a popular choice amongst Burmese students and welcomes students from Myanmar to its three campuses.

Popular courses amongst Burmese students are BEng (Hons) Mechanical Engineering, BA (Hons) Business Management, the MBA and Masters degrees in engineering.

Students from Myanmar have appreciated the scholarships offered by the University and have enjoyed the high standard of living but relatively low cost of living that South Wales offers. Students appreciate the friendly, safe and welcoming environment of the university and benefit hugely from the location – surrounded by breathtaking scenery and impressive historical landscapes, boasting excellent transport links and the buzz of two dynamic Welsh cities.

The University offers the following scholarships for self-funding international students. You will be automatically considered for one of these awards when we receive your application. For more information visit the international scholarships page.

  • International Academic Scholarship of £1,500 per year for undergraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £2,000 for postgraduate students
  • International Academic Scholarships of £1,500 for MBA students

Foundation Entry Requirements

  • International Foundation Year (Intensive English) is available for those students who have passed the passed the Basic Education Standard X Examination/Matriculation Examination with 40% (pass) overall and have an IELTS 5.0 before progressing to their Bachelor degree.
  • Students who have a good level of English (IELTS 6.0 or equivalent) will be considered for our Faculty Foundation Years.


Undergraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Undergraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English Language grade C or above
  • IELTS 6.0 (with a minimum of 5.5 in each band)

Don’t worry if you do not meet these requirements as we offer a range of English Language courses.


Academic Qualifications

  • Students studying A Levels or the International Baccalaureate will be accepted subject to meeting the University’s standard entry requirements as specified for each course.
  • Holders of BTEC validated diplomas from Institut Teknologi Brunei and other local colleges will be considered for direct entry to Bachelor Degree courses.

Postgraduate Entry Requirements

English Qualifications

Proficiency in English is essential for Postgraduate study. The University of South Wales recognises the following English Language qualifications:

  • GCSE/O Level English at grade C or above
  • Postgraduate Study: IELTS with an overall score of 6.0 with at least a 5.5 in each component. Please note that some courses may require a higher level of English language proficiency than the University’s standard requirements. Please see the course page for further information.

Academic Qualifications

  • Students who have completed a Bachelors degree (good) or Higher Diploma can be considered for entry onto a relevant postgraduate programme.
  • Applicants with a Masters degree will be considered for entry to Ph.D. studies.
