How did you hear about USW?

I was a looking for a master programme which is in line with my job and can be approved by the Jean Monnet Scholarship Programme. I contacted the British Council office in Ankara and they really helped me, giving me the necessary knowledge about the university and application process.

Why did you choose to study at USW?
During my application process there were three universities in the UK that offered the masters programme that I wanted to study. I chose to study at USW since it is one of the biggest universities in UK and has a wide a range of facilities and provides many opportunities. Also, the city of Cardiff played a very crucial role in my decision to choose USW. Cardiff is quite a compact, calm and cosmopolitan city. I believed that I would not be a foreigner here and this had a positive impact on my decision. After graduation I believe that my studies here would add to my academic knowledge regarding my job and this will really contribute to the work of TURKAK.

How are you settling into life at USW?
Actually, in the beginning everything was so unknown to me, it took a while to get used to life at USW. But, USW has a wide range of students coming from almost all countries. This helped me to get to know different cultures and pave the way for adapting to life at USW.

Do you have any advice to any other students who are thinking about applying for a Jean Monnet scholarship?
For any future Jean Monnet scholarship candidates, I would give a few suggestions. Studying abroad at a very well known university is an ambition for many people in Turkey. I think the most important thing is to decide on what programme to study within the framework of EU legislation. Most of the scholars have chosen to study in UK since English is the most preferred language among the scholars and the UK provides a wide range of study programmes. The path to the scholarship is actually quite a long process; candidates have to be very patient to the end of the process. After a very exhausting effort they will see that they can succeed to get the scholarship and study in very well known universities.

How did you hear about USW?
I wanted to have a master degree in UK. After I did some research about USW, I decided the come here and at that moment I believed that USW can give everything that I need and it did.
Why did you choose to study at USW? Well, my aim is having a supply chain master degree. When I did some research about that programme, I noticed that from the multiple websites that USW is in the top five in that field. And that was the main reason why I chose USW.

What has been the highlight of your time at USW so far?
First of all, when you come here, you will have a lot of friend from different countries, so you experience new cultures. Second of all, all lecturers coming from the field, so they deliver their experience to us, which is the most important thing for me.

What do you think of life in Wales generally?
I love being here because the nature of the Wales is amazing. Everywhere is green; you can see rabbits and squirrels even on the Treforest campus. Also university settled in Cardiff, which is according to polls the best city to live in UK for young adults. There is one thing to cause some problem to me, weather. Weather can change really quickly here.

What do you think of the course/lecturers/facilities?
My course, which is MSc International Logistics & Supply Chain Management, is one of the best courses in the University. Lecturers of that course are great, they give advice about your studies and they are also really helpful, I mean if you have a problem you can talk with them without any hesitation. There is a huge library inside the Treforest campus which students can benefit from there 24/7 also there is a pub and a night club on the Treforest campus, which contribute the students social life. The postgraduate centre in the Treforest campus is creating an amazing atmosphere to spend your leisure time with your friends to have a coffee and talk or study in the upper floor study rooms or computer labs. You can also use university’s gym in Treforest.

Where do you live? Do you like living there?
I live in mountain halls on the Treforest campus. I love living here because if I need to go to library I can go even at 2 am. Also it gives you the chance to socialise with other people especially with your flatmates and then of course people who live in the other flats. And I think living here is better than living in the private accommodation.

What do you plan to do when you graduate?
I am planning to return Turkey, to find a job and start working in here.

Would you recommend USW to other students?
Studying abroad is a once in a life time experience and it is hard to describe it with words. But if you want to have an amazing experience in your life you need to come here, I will finish my course in two months time and this experience already changed me a lot. Right now I have a lot of knowledge of my study area. Overall, I firmly recommend USW to other Turkish students.
