Being so close to where Doctor Who and other productions are filmed made it the perfect setting for my studies.
Finding my passion and choosing USW
My journey into the media production field began with a deep love for shows like Doctor Who. Growing up, I spent a lot of time in hospitals, and shows like that became a source of comfort, inspiring me to create something that might mean as much to someone else. Over the years, through media courses and film clubs in school and college, my passion only grew, leading me to pursue it seriously.
I chose USW partly because I knew people who had taken the Media Production course here, and I loved Cardiff’s creative scene. Being so close to where Doctor Who and other productions are filmed made it the perfect setting for my studies. Due to COVID, I didn’t attend an Open Day until after I’d applied, but once I visited, I knew it was the right choice.
Find your courseReal-world projects and what's next
The course offers incredible hands-on experience with industry professionals. We’ve worked on real projects, like creating promotional materials for the Welsh Rugby Union, and collaborated with companies for assignments that include feedback and a collaborative process. The best part for me has been scriptwriting and filmmaking—finally being able to put theory into practice.
After graduating, I hope to start as a production assistant. The facilities at USW are fantastic; we have access to professional-grade equipment, even for personal projects, so we’re well-prepared for the real world. My advice? Dive into every opportunity and explore all aspects of the field. It’s a fantastic course if you’re passionate about media and eager to learn.
