Landing on Media Production at USW

Through USW, I’ve contributed to productions for festivals like Green Man.

A hands-on course that changed my direction

My journey to USW was a bit unexpected. In sixth form, I worked as a runner at the Royal Welsh, which sparked my interest in media, but I hadn’t studied it formally. After some time working in a pub, I realised I wanted to pursue something more hands-on and landed on Media Production. The course at USW stood out because of the city’s creative environment and the supportive lecturers who genuinely know the industry.

The course has given me incredible opportunities to work on real projects. Through USW, I’ve contributed to productions for festivals like Green Man and worked on projects that have been shown at Open Days. It’s inspiring to see how projects here can lead directly to industry connections.

Cardiff life and the future ahead

The access to equipment, from cameras to editing suites, makes a huge difference too—you get to work with professional tools without needing to source everything on your own. It really prepares you for the kind of work you’ll do after graduating.

Living in Cardiff has been a great bonus. It’s a creative hub with a growing media scene, from production houses to acting schools. The city is compact and easy to navigate, which makes it easy to connect with other creatives. After graduation, I hope to go freelance, but I’m also open to agency work to build experience and expand my portfolio.
