Every shift reminds me why i love Midwifery – it's the most rewarding job you could possibly have.
Finding my path in Midwifery
My passion for midwifery began when I witnessed the care my mother received during my sister’s birth at age five. Learning about disparities in maternal care, especially for women of colour, further inspired me to pursue this career. I chose USW because of its strong reputation for supporting midwifery students and its proximity to home in Cardiff.
At USW, the practical elements of the course have been invaluable, particularly my placement on the Labour Ward at the Grange Hospital. The high-pressure environment allowed me to contribute meaningfully, boosting my confidence and enhancing my clinical skills significantly. I also greatly appreciated the supportive teaching staff and the exceptional learning resources provided at the simulation centre.
Find your courseBuilding skills for a rewarding future
Through my studies, I've developed essential skills including clinical decision-making, organisation, and interpersonal communication. My proudest moment so far has been my first delivery, where I supported a young mother through a challenging time, reaffirming my commitment to midwifery.
After graduation, I aim to continue working at the Grange Hospital’s Labour Ward, eventually moving into community midwifery at YYF. For anyone considering midwifery, my advice is simple: if you have the passion and drive to support women during one of the most significant moments of their lives, embrace the challenge—it's incredibly rewarding.
