The simulation suite and maternity facilities showcased during the Open Day particularly impressed me.
Finding my path through personal experience
My passion for midwifery began after experiencing both good and bad care during my own pregnancies. One exceptional midwife profoundly impacted me, inspiring me to follow in her footsteps. Returning to education as a mature student, I initially found the idea daunting, but visiting USW’s Open Day quickly reassured me. The welcoming atmosphere, thorough presentations, supportive lecturers, and conversations with current students convinced me this was the place to realise my ambition.
The simulation suite and maternity facilities showcased during the Open Day particularly impressed me. Being able to interact with the equipment and meet supportive staff highlighted the quality of practical education I would receive at USW, reinforcing my decision to enrol here.

My placements at USW have provided rich and varied experiences across multiple hospitals, allowing me to work with midwives, obstetricians, neonatal units, and theatre teams. My favourite experience was my first community placement in Glamorgan, where I realised how deeply fulfilling midwifery could be. The friendships and support systems I’ve gained along the way have made the journey even more rewarding.
After graduating, I’d love to work at the Grange Hospital and hope to eventually return to USW to pursue my master's, specialising further within midwifery. For those considering midwifery at USW, my advice is clear: if you're passionate, take that leap. The support and opportunities here will help you fulfil your dreams.
