PROGRESSION BURSARY 2024/25
The bursary is worth £1,000 for full-time students and £500 for part-time students. You will receive the bursary in your first term by the end of November 2024.

To be eligible you need to meet the following criteria:
- Successfully complete a University of South Wales accredited HND or foundation degree with one of the colleges listed below in Summer 2024, specifically:

- Bridgend College
- Cardiff and Vale College
- Coleg Gwent
- Coleg Y Cymoedd
- The College, Merthyr Tydfil
- NPTC Group
- Gower College Swansea
- Apply for a full or part time eligible undergraduate honours degree entering year 2** or 3***, or a 1-year full or part time eligible top up degree based at a University of South Wales campus starting in September 2024 by the 1st of July 2024
- Apply for the progression bursary by 1st August 2024
- Be a UK, home student liable for the UK home rate of tuition fees.
- Be enrolled on a full or part time eligible course at point of payment

The application process will open from January 2024 onwards. Once you have applied to enter year two** or year three of a full or part time eligible undergraduate degree or one-year full or part time eligible top up degree and been offered a place, you will be sent a link by email to apply for the bursary online.
The University campuses are as follows:
- Pontypridd (Treforest, Glyntaff and Sport Park)
- Cardiff
- Newport

Please note: Eligible students must be in good academic and financial standing with the University e.g., they must not be a debtor without a payment plan.
The Student Money Advice Team will notify you of your eligibility via your University email address by the end of October 2024.

No. The bursary is for students who will be completing a HND or foundation degree at a listed college in the 2023/24 academic year and progressing on to a full or part time eligible undergraduate honours degree, entering year 2** or 3 or a one-year full or part time eligible top up degree at a University of South Wales campus starting in September 2024.
If you are planning to start your course in September 2025, you will need to check the details of any bursary or scholarship scheme available to new students starting in September 2025 and fulfil the eligibility criteria relating to that scheme, including making an application if necessary.
The bursary is available for full or part time eligible undergraduate Honours degree students entering year three (or year two on specific eligible courses) based at a University of South Wales campus starting in September 2024.
Providing you transfer to another eligible course and continue to meet the bursary criteria; you will still be eligible to receive payment at the intended time.
If you leave before payment in the first term, you will not be eligible to receive the bursary.
If you decide to leave us after your payment has been made you are entitled to keep the payment.
Yes. By accepting any payments, you are agreeing to repay any amounts that are subsequently found to be overpayments or incorrect payments. Any overpayments that are not repaid will result in the debt being referred to the University Finance department and appropriate action taken.
No, there is no requirement for you to repay the Bursary, unless payment has been made in error, in which case please see the FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions) above regarding overpayments.
No, however you may be eligible for any scholarships or bursaries offered by the college. Please contact the accredited/associate college direct.
All students have the right to appeal decisions made by the Student Money Advice Team regarding their eligibility for the Progression Bursary.
