Graduate talent flourishes at end of year show

Graduating students from the University of South Wales have shown off their best work in a stunning end of year show.

Flourish/Ffynnu 2014 was launched at the University’s Cardiff campus on Friday night, featuring work created by final year students in the Faculty of Creative Industries.

A variety of visually striking work from Photography, Animation, Graphic Design, Fashion, Film, Music, Art and Drama students is now on display in the showcase, which is open to the public until Wednesday 5th June.

Gill Sandford, Dean of the Faculty of Creative Industries at the University of South Wales, said: “The Flourish graduate showcase has been another fantastic end of year event for the Faculty. The calibre of work produced by the students is very high, and is a credit to them and the University.

“To see such a broad range of work on display at this ambitious and inventive event is tremendous, as it represents the vast array of creative courses on offer at the University of South Wales.”

Amy Mills, a final year BA (Hons) Performance and Media student from Swansea, was co-presenting a live TV show broadcast from the launch event to promote Flourish 14.

“It has been a great experience to be able to study so many different aspects of the media, such as TV, radio and film as well as theatre,” said Amy, 20.

“I’m working towards a career in TV presenting and my course has been a huge help in preparing me for it.”

Jon Bauer, 21, a final year BA (Hons) Graphic Communication student, was showing his social interactive TV app, Gibbon.

“The app allows the user to interact with an advert on TV, follow programmes on Twitter, join fan forums and share their views and ideas on social media platforms,” said Jon, from Pembrokeshire.

“It has been quite a challenging project, as I’ve hand drawn all of the designs before vectorising the images and text using specialist software.

“I decided to call the brand Gibbon as it reflects the social nature of the app, where users can ‘swing’ from standard one-way TV viewing into social interaction.”
