Sarah Kersley, 22 of Chepstow, graduated last year from the Chartered Institute of Marketing (CIM) professional diploma having also previously studied the CIM professional certificate at USW.
She’s recently obtained a more senior marketing role with RockaDove, a video production company based in Cardiff, and attributes her career success so far to her CIM studies.
“Since completing the CIMProfessional Diploma, my career has gone from strength to strength. I have gone from a junior role within a Housing Association where marketing was just one of my responsibilities, to a more senior marketing role within a video production company (RockaDove) based in Cardiff, where I am responsible for the marketing of the business. There are no doubts that my CIM studies played a huge role in my career progression, demonstrating my ability to plan and deliver marketing plans, manage a marketing function and projects to a high level” commented Sarah, who studiedCIM at the University’s City campus, Newport where much of the University’s professional education is based.
As a CIM accredited study centre, Newport City campus offers 3 levels of CIMstudy: Professional certificate for beginners into marketing, Professional diplomafor those wtih some experience or qualifications and then the Postgraduate diploma which is the final stage of CIM studies and can be used as a platform to further Masters study.
The modules are updated to reflect changing trends and themes within marketing, but the basics are not forgotten either with key skills like marketing planning and market research explored as part of the courses.
“My favourite module of the CIM Professional Diploma was Marketing Planning” commented Sarah.“This taught me many valuable skills about how to conduct a marketing audit and develop creative, sustainable and effective marketing plans and apply it to a range of businesses.”
Suzanne Cole, award winning marketeer, fellow of the CIM and programme leader for CIM at the University of South Wales Business School says she’s really pleased with how well graduates from all levels go on to do. “The great thing about CIM is the flexibility it offers” she commented, adding that “people choose to do certain modules, to complete a level over 1 year or 2, and either work their way through all the levels or, depending on experience, start at the level that’s most suitable for them”.
“CIM is also a really affordable way to study at a professional or postgraduate level, and we get people from all sorts of backgrounds and roles, including graduates from all sorts of subjects who want to get some practical skills for their CV, to help them in their own enterprises as well as for career progression”.
