Rt. Hon. Lord Peter Hain will explore the refugee crises in Europe during a lecture at the University of South Wales next week.

He will raise questions around international borders, how governments regulate movements across them and what should be the values at the heart of the European Union that underpin the principles of the freedom of movement.

Migration and the current refugee crisis is one of the most prominent and complex issues in public debates about the UK’s future in the EU.

Lord Hain is one of the UK’s best known political figures. He represented the constituency of Neath for over twenty years as an MP, and served in various government roles including as the Secretary of State for Wales. More recently, he has taken up a seat in the House of Lords as a life peer.

He is currently a Visiting Professor in the School of Humanities and Social Sciences at the University of South Wales, and this is the fourth in a series of lectures he has delivered on international affairs.

The lecture is being held on Friday 6 November, 2pm – 3pm at the Pontypridd Campus in Treforest.

It is open to members of the public, as well as school and college groups. The lecture is part of the Centre for Social Policy lecture series for 2015.
