University finance student awarded Now Careers Scholarship

ACCA Now Scholarship Award winner

Now Careers has provided one aspiring finance professional the opportunity to take another step up the career ladder through their Supporting Ambitions Scholarship. The lucky winner, Emma Beacham, will study the world-renowned Association of Chartered Certified Accountants (ACCA) qualification at the University of South Wales from September 2015.

Emma will benefit from first class teaching, as the Newport City Campus is an ACCA Platinum Approved Learning Partner, the highest level of accreditation that a tuition provider can obtain.

Now Careers announced Emma as the winner at the final of their Supporting Ambitions Scholarship, held yesterday at the prestigious Celtic Manor Resort and Spa in Newport.

The quality of all scholarship entries was excellent and the winning student was chosen by a panel of five judges which included Gary Redman (Now Careers Managing Director), Sarah Jones (Now Careers Director), Ceri Leath (Now Careers Director), Ben Cottam (Head of ACCA Cymru Wales) and Teresa Marsh (ACCA Course Tutor at the University of South Wales).

Emma enthused “I am absolutely delighted to have won the Now Careers Supporting Ambitions Scholarship.  I genuinely I did not expect to win this and I still cannot believe it!  This scholarship will totally change my life. Had I not won, I would have had to fund the course myself, so financially this would not have been viable. I cannot wait to start the course next week!”

Dr. Jared Davies, Academic Manager (Accounting & Finance) said, “We have been delighted to work in this pioneering partnership with ACCA Wales and Now Careers. Congratulations to Emma and we very much look forward to welcoming her onto our ACCA course”.

Sarah Jones from Now Careers added, “We are really proud to be the first Accountancy recruitment agency who has worked in conjunction with ACCA Wales and USW in order to provide this innovative scholarship programme in the UK. The standard of applications and quality of candidates who entered was of a very high calibre and it really was a tough decision for the 5 judges. The winner, Emma Beacham is a very deserving candidate of the award and we wish her all the very best with her ACCA studies. We are pleased to be able to give something back to the local community and are already looking forward to offering this scholarship again.

From September 2015, the University of South Wales’s ACCA and ICAEW provision will be expanding with courses delivered in Atlantic House at our Cardiff Campus.
