BA Theatr a Drama students' work airs on S4C

Welsh language theatre and drama students at USW will see their work air on S4C this week.

Students studying on a script writing module for BA Theatr a Drama were given the opportunity to translate and adapt scripts from English into Welsh for the Welsh language animation series Olobobs.

The series, produced by Beakus in collaboration with Clothcat animation for the BBC, S4C and Cake with support from the Welsh Government and European Union, is an animation series about creative play for pre-schoolers.

Masterclasses were provided to allow students to explore the field of scriptwriting for animation. Scripts by USW students Jack Rose, Kelsey Thompson, Gethin Bickerton and Gareth Thomas will be aired during September on S4C.

The project also provided opportunities for students from the Prosiect Proffesiynol Annibynnol (RA3S27) (independent professional project) module to gain work experience in voice directing and animation production for the Welsh language series.

BA Theatr a Drama students also visited the studios to watch the sessions being recorded and took part in a Q&A with Clothcat company director Jon Rennie.

The first episode of Olobobs will air on S4C at 7.15am on Wednesday, August 30.

The project was overseen by Dr Helen Davies (USW), Sera Moore Williams (USW), Jon Rennie (Clothcat) and Matthew Davies (USW) with financial support from Coleg Cymraeg Cenedlaethol.
