The partnership between global technology leader Thales and the University of South Wales (USW) has taken a new step with the appointment of three senior executives as visiting Thales Fellows.

Thales VP Secure Communications and Information Systems Gareth Williams, Technical Director Roger Ingle, and Operations Director Dave Mason, will mentor and teach students in the fields of business leadership, cyber technology, and logistics/supply chain.

Professor Julie Lydon, Vice-Chancellor of USW, said: “We’re a University founded by industry and the professions for the needs of employers, and this partnership gives us a tremendous opportunity.

“We’ll be exchanging knowledge and insight, building on the work we’re doing with Thales to deepen and expand its presence in Wales, as well as priming the talent pipeline the company will continue to need for the global technology markets.”

The Thales Fellows initiative builds on joint work between USW and Thales on placements, R&D projects, and development of pioneering digital exploitation and cyber research

Gareth Williams said: “I’m proud to be one of the first Thales Fellows at USW. This will give us the opportunity to work in partnership with our colleagues in the University, shaping the curriculum to the future needs of the industry and the opportunities that Digital Transformation will offer.

“Also, giving us access to the next generation of business and technical graduates is a fantastic opportunity to attract talented individuals to Thales in the future.”
