Music Business students at the University of South Wales (USW) benefited from a masterclass this week with one of the leading experts in the industry.

Ann Harrison, author of Music: The Business, specialises in copyright and contract law for artists, songwriters, producers, managers, independent record labels and publishers.

During the masterclass she gave an overview of the changes in the music business during the past three years, as outlined in the new, eighth edition of her book.

Drawing on her extensive experience as a media lawyer, Ann offered her expert opinion on the deals, contracts and the business as a whole, including the impact of the Covid-19 pandemic on the industry.

USW’s Music Business degree, based at the Cardiff Campus, is ideal for students who have a passion for music to explore the many avenues available in the industry, such as label management, artists and repertoire (A&R), event management, publishing, artist development, enterprise, marketing and radio. The course provides a clear emphasis on entrepreneurial skills and strategic career development, with real-world projects in the vibrant music scene of Cardiff and South Wales.
