Graduates from the University of South Wales (USW) will be crossing the graduation stage for the first time at the International Convention Centre Wales (ICC Wales) in Newport next year.

USW is working with ICC Wales to deliver all of the University’s rescheduled graduation ceremonies for 2020 and 2021 graduates, which were postponed due to the Covid-19 pandemic.

Thousands of graduates will be invited to attend ceremonies in March and April 2022, with their families and friends, at the UK’s newest and most exciting events venue. The ceremonies will be held across two weeks - the week beginning 14 March 2022 and the week beginning 4 April 2022.

The summer 2022 graduation ceremonies will also be held in July at ICC Wales, an £83.7m joint venture between Celtic Manor Resort and Welsh Government.

USW and Celtic Manor have a long running partnership, and already work together to deliver the BA (Hons) Hotel and Hospitality Management degree.

Dr Ben Calvert, Vice-Chancellor of USW, said: “We are delighted to be working with ICC Wales to deliver our rescheduled graduation ceremonies. We had to make difficult decisions to postpone ceremonies in 2020 and 2021, in order to keep everyone safe.

“We made a commitment to offer our graduates the opportunity to attend a graduation ceremony, and we have been looking forward to a time when we could enable our graduates to formally celebrate with us, their family and friends. To be able to do that at ICC Wales will be incredibly special and I hope that many of our graduating classes from 2020 and 2021, as well as summer 2022, will be able to join us to celebrate such a special event.”

Ian Edwards, ICC Wales Chief Executive, said: “We are excited to be hosting these graduation ceremonies and congratulating so many students on their achievements over what has been an incredibly tough couple of years. I am sure that the fantastic surroundings of ICC Wales will provide the perfect backdrop to celebrate these brilliant successes and make these delayed ceremonies worth the wait.

“We are proud to strengthen the partnership between The Celtic Collection and the University of South Wales, and it will be particularly pleasing to see our first cohorts from the Hotel and Hospitality Management degree course among the graduates. We have really enjoyed seeing these students progress during the time they have spent with us, adding lots of invaluable hands-on practical experience to their learnings in the classroom.”
