Choosing the University of South Wales to study Nursing

“I’m a mature student, so it’s taken me a while to figure out what I wanted to do. I studied Psychology at USW previously, but after graduating, I just wanted to get out and earn some money. Over time, I realised I wanted a career that truly matched my passion. After researching different roles, I fell in love with Adult Nursing. I’ve always enjoyed working with people, so it felt like the perfect fit.

“I chose USW for a few reasons. Living nearby with a young family, I needed somewhere convenient, and USW was ideal. Having studied here before, I was familiar with the facilities, and the positive reputation of the nursing programme really stood out. The support offered, such as assignment supervisions and guidance from kind, approachable lecturers, made all the difference as I transitioned into healthcare without prior experience.

Industry standard facilities and placements

“Seeing the Glyntaff campus and simulation suites in action made me excited to start. The facilities, especially the Clinical Simulation Centre, are fantastic for building confidence and skills before placements.

“Placements have been the highlight of my course. I’ve completed 12 of them across various settings, building networks with healthcare professionals and exploring specialist areas. My favourite was A&E, where I’ve now secured a job.

“For anyone considering Adult Nursing, my advice is to embrace every opportunity and enjoy the journey—it flies by! USW offers a supportive, friendly atmosphere and endless opportunities to grow and succeed.”
