Course Questions

Choosing a University course is much easier said than done. A good place to start would be to chat with the teaching staff at an Open Day.

Some good to questions to ask are:

  • What do you look for in my application and personal statement?
  • How many hours a week will I be in lectures? 
  • What facilities will I get to use?
  • Can I do a placement or study abroad as part of my course? 
  • How will I be assessed during my degree?
  • How is the course at USW different from other Universities?

Accommodation Questions

As part of the Open Day, we run Accommodation Tours. If this is your first time away from your family, you want to move somewhere affordable, that feels friendly, safe, and homely to keep the homesickness bug at bay.

  • What are the different accommodation options available on campus?
  • Are there private student rentals available off campus?
  • How can I settle in to Halls?
  • Is it easier to be closer to campus?
  • How and when can I apply? 
  • How easy is it to budget for rent and other living expenses?

Location Questions

If you decide to live on campus, you will be spending a lot of time in the local area, so it's vital that you're confident that you'll feel at home. 

Here are some questions to ask to help make the right decision.

  • Where is the nearest supermarket? 
  • How far away is the train station? 
  • Will I need to bring my car?
  • Are there any part-time job opportunities?
  • Are there any good restaurants, cafés, and bars?
  • Is the area easy to navigate?

Student Life Questions

The next 3 years will be full of socialising, maturing as a young adult and of course studying. USW is home to a whole host of wonderful support services and fun social opportunities. Whatever student life means to you, you must make sure that your university choice offers it.

  • What societies are worth joining?
  • Who can I speak to if I'm struggling in any way?
  • What is first year like, socially and academically?
  • What's the local nightlife like?
  • How can I spend my weekends?
  • What is one thing that every USW student should experience?
