Finding my place at USW
My path into Photography began with capturing my children’s childhoods. Over time, that passion evolved into landscape photography and eventually led me into creative storytelling through images. I wanted to expand my skills, especially in lighting and technical aspects, and photography seemed like the perfect path.
I initially planned to study at another college, but when that course didn’t run, I connected with Peter from USW, who invited me for a chat and a tour. I instantly loved the campus—the openness, the artwork, and the friendly atmosphere. Meeting students who were passionate about their work made me feel welcome and reassured me that this was the right place.
Find your courseCreative growth and future ambitions
The course here is very industry-oriented, with live projects like a commercial advertising brief for John Wyatt Clark, Director of the notable Photography Agency, Wyatt-Clarke+Jon. It’s been a fantastic way to learn about the creative industry hands-on. My favourite part, though, has been the social interaction, sharing ideas with classmates, and seeing different creative paths—it’s been truly inspiring.
Balancing family life with studies has been a learning curve. With six kids, I’ve had to master time management, and USW’s supportive environment has made that possible. The staff genuinely want you to succeed, and having that encouragement has made all the difference. In the future, I’m keen to explore different creative fields, whether in film, TV, or something else. For anyone considering photography, my advice is simple: if you’re passionate, just go for it.
