How do we counter terrorism?

Christian Kaunert, Professor of Policing and Security at University of South Wales, will today speak to NATO officials from more than twenty countries about how to counter terrorist threats in their own regions.

Speaking at the NATO Centre for Excellence on Terrorism in Ankara, Turkey, Professor Kaunert will address military NATO personnel from NATO and 20+ partner countries including Ukraine, North Macedonia, Bosnia and Hercegovina, Afghanistan, and Lebanon.

Drawing on his extensive research in this area, Professor Kaunert will discuss the various options for countering threats, from political, economic and legal to policing and finally, military means.

Professor Kaunert is an expert on counter-terrorism having researched and published widely.  He is currently writing a book on the EU as a counter-terrorism actor with Edward Elgar (forthcoming 2020).

His research has a clear focus on Policing and International Security, especially in the area of EU counter-terrorism, including its external dimension, terrorism and counter-terrorism, and international relations more generally.

Professor Kaunert is Chair of Policing and Security, Director of the International Centre for Policing and Security at USW and teaches on the MSc International Security and Risk Management.
