The Library and Student Centre is the largest of the University's libraries and is located on our Treforest Campus near Pontypridd.

Study Spaces

Spread over two floors, Treforest Library has many different types of study spaces to suit your needs. No need to book just call in, however, you can book a group study space using Connect2.

  • Silent Study   
  • Quiet Study -  The book stock and PC area are designated quiet study areas. 
  • Groupwork study desks for up to 6 students. 
  • 2 Bookable study pods on first floor 
  • There are 5 Pods with plasma screens for group study (seats 6-8) these are also bookable on Connect 2  
  • PCs  - There are PCs throughout the library. The main PC area is on the first floor of the library.

Parking 

Disabled parking spaces are in the car park at the rear of the building.  

Disabled parking permits are issued free of charge to students who are in receipt of a blue badge (a copy of which must be provided) to enable them to park within the campus. For more information see Student Parking at USW. 

General access 

The building has three floors with lift access between them. There is a lift from street level to the main library entrance.

Adjustable tables  

Computers and height adjustable desks.   

Fire Evacuation 

Evac chairs are available for mobility restricted users and alternative exit routes are available from all parts of the buildings in the case of an emergency.  

Toilets 

Accessible toilets are available on all floors of the building.

Centre for the Study of Welsh Writing in English

The CSWWE was established to promote interest and study in the literary works of Wales written in English. Its collection is housed at our Treforest campus library.  

Centre for Gender Studies in Wales Collection

The Centre for Gender Studies in Wales Collection contains magazines, documents, leaflets and short-run monographs related to the women’s movements and groups in South Wales during the 1970s and 1980s. 

Slide Collection 

The Slide Collection, currently housed at Treforest Library, contains 40,000 slides, covering all aspects of art, media and design. 

Gregynog Press

A small collection of traditionally printed books by Gregynog Press, one of the few surviving private printing presses in the UK, set up in 1922 and influenced by the Arts and Crafts movement of the early 20th Century.  

Access

The special collections are housed at our Treforest Library. The items are available for consultation between 10:00-15:00 Monday to Friday when the library is open and staffed. Items are for reference only and cannot be removed from the Library. To arrange a viewing students and staff should email library staff 24 hours in advance. A form of ID will need to be brought to access items
