Schools and Education

If you're interested in teaching, the University provides opportunities to work in schools alongside PE staff. We work with both primary and secondary schools. The experience is extremely valuable for gaining a place on a PGCE course.

Sports Coaching and Development

USW has developed excellent partnerships with Rhondda Cynon Taf, Merthyr Tydfil, and Caerphilly local authorities. This allows students to contribute to school physical education and sport, as well as community and club based activities. You'll also have opportunities to take on project management and development roles working with sports organisations such as National Governing Bodies for sport (including Hockey Wales, Welsh Netball and Golf Development Wales), local authority sports development departments, private organisations, StreetGames, social enterprises and leisure providers. Find out more about the BSc (Hons) Sports Coaching and Development.

Rugby Sport

We have unique partnerships with the Welsh Rugby Union (WRU) and the professional rugby regions in Wales, including Cardiff Blues and Newport Gwent Dragons. You'll have the opportunity to apply your knowledge and skills to work placements including local clubs, the WRU and across the four professional regions. Find out more about the BSc (Hons) Rugby Coaching and Performance, and about rugby at USW.

Football Coaching

Students gain hands-on experience of coaching, with the course team delivering to their 'classroom to turf' teaching mantra. You'll be mentored by Level 4 UEFA A licence coach educators and given expert advice on your coaching practice. The partnership allows you to achieve a Level 2 FAW C Certificate and a FAW UEFA B Licence. Find out more about our football courses, and football at USW.
