USW Rugby are partnered with a number of professional rugby bodies, as well as other groups within the rugby industry. These partners help us to ensure our students are fully prepared for working in the rugby industry when they graduate.
USW has a strong partnership with the WRU that has been developed over a number of years. The WRU endorse and support the BSc Rugby Coaching and Performance degree and provide a number of placement opportunities each year to support students with their studies. In addition, USW have jointly developed a Foundation Degree in Rugby Coaching and Development with the WRU that will support community based rugby development.
Our partnership with the Cardiff Blues supports both performance and community development. USW provide a high performance coaching environment for developing youth players within the Blues U16 and U18 squads, with USW students providing strength and conditioning, performance analysis and coaching support. In addition, the Blues support the Foundation Degree in Rugby Coaching and Development, providing community based rugby provision for students to develop aspiring young players.
USW has an excellent partnership with The Dragons that supports community based rugby development. The Dragons support the Foundation Degree Rugby Coaching and Development in providing opportunities for students to study through the provision of rugby coaching. Furthermore, students are provided with a range of community based placements each year that include; inclusive rugby, tag rugby, and primary and secondary school programmes.
The Pontypridd Valleys Rugby Initiative, in collaboration with the University of South Wales, has impacted hundreds of local children through school rugby coaching sessions, rugby coaching camps and festivals allowing our undergraduate rugby coaches, analysts, S&C practitioners, sports journalists and team managers to apply their knowledge. This unique initiative will go some way in providing the industry the professionals required to service our modern multidisciplinary game.
Cardiff Blues have agreed a partnership that will give young rugby players access to leading facilities at the University of South Wales. This agreement will mean more aspiring rugby players, coaches, managers, and performance analysts, will have the chance to develop their skills and see what is available to them if they move into higher education at USW.
