Chris Newport, Course Leader for BA (Hons) Business, speaks about his background in business and how it feeds into the course.

"BA (Hons) Business is designed for part-time students who are working in a professional role alongside their studies. The course is perfect for anyone who needs a degree qualification, to take their career to the next level. Taking a contemporary approach to business, the course encourages students to share their experiences of working in industry, enriching the learning experience.

My passion for business lies within Human Resource Management. My experience in industry includes managerial roles in HR within the Public Sector and Private Sector.  I’ve worked as a Training Development Manager, Recruitment and Workforce Planning Manager and a general HR Manager. I’ve used the wealth of experience gained to inspire others through my teaching and also by creating my own business, HR-Focused, which provides HR consultancy services to SME’s throughout South and West Wales.

I’m a member of the Chartered Institute of Personnel Development (CIPD), a Member of the Institute of Leadership and Management (ILM) and a Fellow of the Higher Education Academy (HEA). The memberships I have with professional bodies support the work I do in the classroom, when teaching modules such as Leadership and Management, and Business Skills and Professional Development.

When I’m not working, I’m busy either playing squash or supporting Swansea City at Liberty Stadium. Being a keen cricketer I’m also Captain of the Gorseinon Cricket Club's, Third Team.”
