Midwifery Student of the Year 2018

Here are the nominees

Our annual Nursing and Midwifery Student Awards recognise the students that have demonstrated the skills and qualities that mark them out as exceptional nurses or midwives of the future. The winners will be announced at a ceremony held on Tuesday, July 3.

Here are the nominations for Midwifery Student of the Year 2018

Francesca Preston
Francesca was nominated by a new mum who said: During a complicated birth, Frankie kept me calm and comfortable and stayed long after her shift had finished to accompany me to surgery and be there for me afterwards. She was outstanding and really went that extra mile for me.

Samantha Thomas
Samantha was nominated by a patient who said Sam cared for her with the utmost respect and dignity. She said: I will be forever thankful for her perfect care in bringing my beautiful boy into the world.

Nina Revera
The same patient also nominated Nina for supporting her through theatre and providing exemplary postnatal care. She said 'her calm nature shone through'.

Ffion Cleaton
Ffion was nominated by her mentor who said Ffion’s professionalism had been praised by the ward manager and midwifery supervisor. They particularly commended her thorough and informative documentation of a number of difficult cases.

Lauren Mytton
Lauren was nominated by a patient who said she ‘couldn’t have coped without her. Lauren helped me to express so I had enough milk when for when Charlie got better; wheeled me to special care whenever I wanted to see him and sat with me in the early hours when I felt lower than I ever have in my life. I’m not sure you can teach the qualities Lauren has and I feel lucky to have had her look after me.’

Kayleigh Graham
Kayleigh was nominated by a new dad who said she was simply outstanding. He said: Kayleigh went above and beyond to explain things, sit with us and comfort us. Neither my wife or I realised she was a student, she was like a qualified member of staff in the way she carried out her job. Because of her we had the chance to enjoy what was happening, despite the nerves and worry. I cannot put into words how she made us feel but we are so grateful she was there.
