Module: The Research Journey

Sophie John_ PhD student

Research is a key component of the BA (Hons) Education and Innovative Learning course and the intention is to provide as many opportunities as possible to develop and enhance the research skills of the students so that they become research-informed educators.

In Year One you will be introduced to a range of education research skills and strategies including learning about appropriate research methodologies. This will be developed further in the second year where students will gain the knowledge and skills to plan for their own research in an appropriate academic manner. You will explore how to analyse data and reflect critically on research findings.

In Year Three your research skills will be extended to enable you to complete an independent research project. This provides students with an opportunity to identify the focus of their own research project which will stem from their observations and understanding of key educational topics. The data accumulated will be critically analysed and presented.
