"When I started to think about nursing as a career, I enrolled on the access to health course at Bridgend College and also became a volunteer on my local children’s ward.
"As I had no prior experience of working with children or in a hospital setting, I wanted to be sure that I enjoyed working with children and their families before I applied for the child nursing degree.
"My reason for picking child nursing is simple: I feel that children and their families will always remember their experiences at hospital, and I want to be that nurse who really stands out to them.
"Alongside the course, I also work as a healthcare support worker on the maternity ward of my local hospital, and this has really helped my skills and confidence.
"On my second ward placement at the Princess of Wales Hospital, one of the patients gave great feedback of me to my mentor. I was so happy to know I had given that child good care and support, and to be nominated for the University's student recognition award on the back of this.
"Studying at University of South Wales is great. I have lots of guidance and support and feel that my tutors are interested in my practice learning and experiences. They are there to push me to better myself, as a person and as a nurse."
