I swapped engineering for nursing

Richard Morgan, LD nursing student

Richard Morgan from Swansea is studying the learning disabilities nursing degree.

"My background is in engineering. I had a career spanning 20 years but after being made redundant, I felt it was time for a career change.

"I worked in a home for adults with learning disabilities whilst doing an access to health care course. Within weeks, I knew it was the right decision - my only regret was that I didn't do it years ago!

"With the support of my wife and two children, I have thrived at university. I love the lectures and have been really impressed with university life.

"I have just finished a great placement at Heronsbridge School, which is a primary and secondary special school which caters for a wide range of learning needs including a department for pupils on the Autistic continuum.

"It was an enjoyable and humbling experience, these fantastic children are a credit to the school.

"The first year has flown by. It has been exciting and inspiring."
