BSc (Hons) Aircraft Maintenance Engineering (Top-Up) student, Tharuka Senarathne from Sri Lanka, has just started his placement at Execujet Middle East. Here’s what he has to say about his experience so far.
“I’ve always had a passion for aircraft. Ever since I was young, I knew I wanted to work in a dynamic technical industry.
USW opening a campus in Dubai was perfect for me; I knew by studying here that there would be a higher possibility of job opportunities if I stayed in Dubai.
The lecturing team at USW Dubai are well experienced and have offered endless amounts of support; they managed to help me find a placement during my studies at Execujet Middle East, Dubai Airport where I’ve taken on the role as assistant aircraft technician.
So far, I have assisted engineers and technicians with performing routine and non-routine base maintenance tasks.
My classroom studies have really supported my time on placement. By understanding the theory behind certain tasks, I have been able to apply this and get stuck in to whatever I’m asked to do. The modules human factors analysis and aviation management legislation have definitely helped me when completing set tasks.
Being able to complete an internship while studying is definitely something I’d recommend. My practical skills have greatly improved, along with my understanding of how to apply particular theories in to my work.
Having this experience and after I’ve graduated I’m hoping to gain a permanent job. I know this experience will boost my chances at becoming employed.”
