Kirsty Perrett, Phd student

Kirsty worked in industry for twelve years before completing an MSc at USW to validate what she’d learnt. She started off in a call centre and quickly made an impact – moving their paper based systems over to digital.

She moved up the ranks quickly and her skills in IT and cyber were soon recognised. She used this prior experience and professional accreditations to enable her to access Masters level study, and was so successful, she’s now being paid to do a PhD at USW:

“After working in the computing industry for 12 years I decided to make a change.

I needed to develop my knowledge if I wanted to progress, but I was scared it was too late, that’s when I decided to jump back in, enrolling on a postgraduate course in Computer Systems and Security at USW.

Now I’m working towards my Doctorate, researching the latest worldwide 5G network…and there I was, thinking I’d be stuck in the same old job forever!"
