Animation stop-motion students gain industry insights in Bristol

BA Animation Stop-Motion students often visit companies and organisations to gain insight into the skills and traits needed to make it within the industry. An example of this is a recent trip to nearby Bristol, where the focus of the day was on transferable skills and sustainable employment.

On the day, we spent time at each of the following companies:

  • Aardman and Joe Wallace Studio - features and commercials; and feature documentary, music videos and independent animation respectively
  • Mangostone Model and Prop makers - experts in animation, set-design, event-design, and live-action
  • Puppet Place - where individual puppet creatives are working in everything from theatre to interactive installation.

Each offered a unique perspective on the types of roles and career opportunities that our students are interested in. We received invaluable information about the attitudes and skills needed to survive and maintain an employment trajectory in craft skills and animation. with the key points to take away being: work hard, increase your skill-base, learn to be a team-player, and be nice! In short, everything we promote at USW.
