Growing up, Dan had always wanted to become a journalist. At fifteen, he had his first taste of what life as a journalist could be like, writing for The Tyrone Constitution In Omagh.

Eager to learn more about the world of journalism and media, he joined the BA (Hons) Journalism course at the University of South Wales.

Since joining USW, Dan has gone on to write for Vavel online and the University paper, ‘South Wales Disclosure’.

“2019 has been a proper rollercoaster for me!

I spent a week with Global’s Newsroom in Wales. I had the opportunity to help form part of the news bulletins throughout my time there – I even got to meet Sam Warburton.

I also had the opportunity to spend a week shadowing the TV and Radio teams at BBC Wales. It was interesting to have an insight into the techniques involved with live news broadcasting, which is something we do a lot of in our USW news days.

It was an amazing moment for everyone at USW when we won the award for the Best TV Newsday at the BJTC Awards last year.

During our Newsday's, I did a lot of reporting on both TV and Radio, which gave me the experience needed to join the news team at Bro Radio. As well as reading the news for them over the year, I helped produce their 2019 Election coverage, co-hosting the Vale Election Hustings.

Talking about the Election, I finished the year working with the BBC researching and helping with Election Night rehearsals, before heading to Islwyn with Sky News as a results stringer.

As Cardiff City Fan, it was great to interview Cardiff City Footballers, Sol Bamba and Junior Hoilett, and Soccer Saturday presenter Jeff Stelling, as well as covering Neil Harris’ first Presser as City manager.

2020 looks like it’s going to be a great year, bring it on!"
