USW students can win recording sessions at a world-famous residential studio

Would you like to record your music in a studio that's been graced by the likes of Oasis and Black Sabbath?

At the University of South Wales, our second year BA Popular and Commercial Music students have the opportunity to do just that. Senior lecturer Damon Minchella explains more:

“The Monnow Valley Studio Prize is a fantastic opportunity open to all BA Popular and Commercial Music students that offers two full days recording and accommodation at the world-famous residential studio that has been home to Oasis, Biffy Clyro, Stereophonics, Joss Stone, Black Sabbath and more. The 2nd year student with the best-combined grades in live performance and songwriting/production receives this unmissable opportunity to record their original material in a true home of the greats.” Damon Minchella (Senior Lecturer BA Popular and Commercial Music)

Students find that the opportunity helps them to focus on their studies and do their best work, as one of our previous winners, Carlean Williams, explains:

“The prize of a two-day session at Monnow Valley Studios was a priceless opportunity to utilise the pure and lush sonic spaces, as well as picking the brains of a hugely successful engineer and producer. The competition in itself, for the second year pop and commercial students, motivated the class to develop and push their abilities. It was partly responsible for creating a healthy environment for which we all pushed one other. “ Carlean Williams 3rd Year BA Popular and Commercial Music prize winner
