Industry partnerships are at the heart of our degree programs, providing unique curriculums and real-world learning to ensure students are equipped with the current needs of the sector.
Horizons/Gorwelion is a scheme delivered by BBC Cymru Wales in partnership with Arts Council Wales to develop new, independent contemporary music in Wales. The programme of activity, mentoring and support is tailored to meet the needs of the artist at a critical point in their musical and creative careers.
Music & Sound students collaborate with BBC Horizons to develop strategies and content for marketing campaigns, connecting first-hand with emerging talent and the creative industry in Wales. Some of the Schools talented musicians have been selected to join the scheme including Adwaith, Chroma, Al Moses, Bloom and The Rotanas. Through building a 'world of work' portfolio students have a head start in the industry, gain experience and develop valuable networks.
Bethan Elfyn, Project Manager of Horizons said, “It’s great to introduce new Welsh music to the students but also in true collaborative form, they bring plenty of energy, enthusiasm and inspiration to what we do. I’ve always been impressed with the ideas process and the tenacious students who see the projects through. We look forward to working with USW further to push the ideas around our events and promote unsigned music to a wider audience!”
