Our Applied Biosciences degree allows you to learn technical skills and gain hands-on experiences through applying your practical knowledge to real-life case studies in our state-of-the-art laboratories.
Lecturers on our course are experienced in applied research and are always investigating new cases to better the world that we live in. Most recently, lecturers Jeroen Nieuwland and Emma Hayhurst have been developing a rapid diagnostic test to detect whether individuals are actively infected by the Covid-19 virus. They have been experimenting using the technology and facilities available at the university that you will also use during your studies. You can read more about their research here.
Furthermore, throughout your time with us, you will look at real-life problems and solve them using your knowledge and passion for Bioscience. You will study a range of modules from Genetics and Evolution to Medical Microbiology before completing a Professional Work Placement in your final year which we can help you source through our range of industry partners.
Our course is much more hands-on than other Biology courses available across the UK. During practical lectures, students work within small groups, allowing you to develop close relationships with expert lecturers who can hand over their knowledge to you.
If you love Biology and want to apply your knowledge to real-life problems, then this course could be perfect for you!
