5 things may not know about a career in Midwifery

Midwife Student

As a part of the Year of the Nurse and Midwife, we asked our midwifery staff at USW to share some of their favourite things about being a midwife:

A midwife is the first person that ever touches you

Feeling proud that, as a midwife, we are the most senior and skilled professional in attendance at over 75% of births

Being part of the magical moment a couple becomes a family - I still cry at every birth!

The difference you make on a night shift by being there for a woman and her baby at 2.30 am and just listening to her birth story.

The tea and toast you make after a baby is born will be the most welcoming and delicious tea and toast that woman has ever had.
