Balancing study with my sports commitments was made easier with support from my mentors at Wigan Warriors and USW.

Max Roberts has been studying our Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Development, an opportunity given to him through our partnership with the Wigan Warriors education academy.

“I studied my first year on the Foundation Degree in Sports Coaching and Development whilst playing for the Reserves at Wigan. I chose to study this course as I felt it was the best option for me in continuing my education. I was hoping to gain experience and knowledge within the coaching and development field and so far, it has fulfilled all my expectations.

Balancing playing sport and my studies was tough at times, however, with assistance from my teachers, I was able to get through it and make sure my work was still to a high level. There was plenty of support available to me not only from my teachers at Wigan and but also from my module leaders at USW. I was able to email them at any time if I had any questions about work or assignments and they would get back as soon as possible.

In the future, I would like to pursue a career in coaching and this degree is perfect for that as I’ll gain my qualifications as well as experience within the field.

If I were to give any advice to prospective students, I’d say firstly to do the course as it's enjoyable and very manageable. Also, make sure to stay on top of your assignments and you’ll have no problems with handing work in.

Overall my first year has been great and I can't wait to start my 2nd.”
