These were “in conversation” pieces with industry professionals including Dave Davey, Bernie Davis and David Bishop, award-winning lighting directors for shows such as X-factor, Dancing on Ice and BBC Proms at the Royal Albert Hall.
During these sessions, students had the opportunity to learn how the professionals got into the industry, what their jobs involve, the types of equipment they work with, projects they've worked on, the equipment they work with and also other invaluable advice they had to share with our students.
As an example of the necessity of collaboration, students from FCI Media Production and Set Design were also invited to these informative sessions where the real-world synergies were confirmed. It is hoped to run several more of these sessions in the future. Bringing world-class lighting experts into the educational forum is of high value without a doubt.
These types of opportunities are at the heart of what we offer at USW. Wherever possible we love to connect with the industry in order to offer real-life experiences to students and give them the opportunity to network and gain knowledge from professionals.
Industry professionals were consulted in the development of our lighting course. You'll have access to a range of cutting-edge technologies, learning how to programme lighting consoles, control platforms and media servers. You can also get creative, producing video content and working as a lighting designer or programmer on a range of performances and events while studying for your degree.
